Her Mama's Girl

Remember here, where I told you about the fabulous Mother's Day gift that hubby gave me? Well, the tomato garden is in full bloom. And it finally boasted some beautiful red fruit a couple of weeks ago!

Here, Big A shows how proud she is that she picked the first tomato out of our garden. My favorite touch was the engineer's cap. Wasn't it Ouiser in Steel Magnolias who said that southern women all wear funny hats and grow things in the ground. That's my girl.
Um, excuse me. What do you think you're doing?

Oh no she didn't. She took not 1, but 2 bites of MY first tomato.

And then showed me her fancy work. And her next move was to put this twice bitten piece of fruit into my hand. At which point, I gobbled it up. Hey, I'm not a discriminator when it comes tomatoes. Just ask anyone who has known me since I was a kid.

Thankfully, I had several back ups in which to enjoy the first bite.

Congrats on the tomatoes. You reminded me that I should really go check on mine. I know I have a few (green) ones out there!

And so cute that she loves tomatoes. Little Miss loves them but Mister Man won't touch them.... Yum!

I'm impressed and jealous. Florida soil grows flavorless tomatoes. I miss that for tomato sandwiches and just by themselves with salt & pepper. Yum!

I remember the very first time I came to your house after school...we walked thru the kitchen and there were some tomatos on the iwndowsill over the kitchen sink. you went over and grabbed one and chowed down like it was the most normal thing in the world. And I stood thre aghast ebcause I had never seen anyone eat a whole tomato before.

To this day, you are "my friend who eats tomatoes."

Your tomatoes are beautiful! But I think I am the only adult on the planet who despises them. And ketchup.

(And don't you love Steel Magnolias?! There are soooo many great lines from that movie. My favorite being - if you don't have something nice to say, come sit by me :-)

Cute pics! I'd compliment you on the tomatoes, but that's definitely not a fruit I enjoy. When I was younger it would sometimes be my job to pick them, and the plants always made me itch like crazy. I never understood that. I'm not allergic to tomatoes, I just sometimes wish I was.
