Reading is something that I have always loved, but kind of let take a back seat in recent years. It's always been important to us to encourage a love of reading in our girls. Books are a HUGE staple in our home! Each year, our local library system hosts a summer reading program for all ages. This is the second year that my girls have participated. They get credit for each book that they sit and listen to us read to them. Big A is quickly approaching starting to read on her own. Very exciting!
At the end of summer, the library hosts a big party for all the participants. The kids get free books, coupons to local attractions and crafts galore. But most of all, they get a huge dose of fun!
The pavilion that hosts this event is pretty large. It would have to be to accomodate the masses that attend.
The girls favorite part of the event are the free popsicles. Daddy helps Little A with her cherry popsicle.
Big A is a popsicle pro! She loves grape the best.
One of the crafts was making alien hats. The theme this year was "A Space Adventure". In this case, here's my Little A-lien.
And here's my Big A-lien.
The next fave thing at this event are the inflatables. The girls can't get enough of them. Big A has scaled this slide and is ready for her turn down.
Whee! Here comes Little A.
We all had a great time and headed for home with our bags of loot. We'll continue to read lots and lots of books until next summer where we'll dive into the library program again! Who doesn't love FREE STUFF? Speaking of which, I smell an end of summer giveaway brewing. Do you smell it? Stay tuned for an exciting announcement this week.

Looks like a perfectly wonderful day! Love the alien headbands!
I always make my kids match their Popsicles to their shirts.
WHEE! You know I love to read! Looks like they had a great time!
Our library system does the summer reading program also, but they do not have an end of summer shingding like this! I'm jealous!, But it looks like you guys had fun!
Wow, we have the same thing. Kind of. The patches if you visit the library three times, and the end of summer shindig. Except our shindig is in the library. No loot. Except we do have the freezer pops. And bingo one year. And they do it on a Friday (last Friday) from 1:30-3:30, smack dab in the middle of naptime, so we haven't been able to go at ALL the last two years. But we did get the patch at least!
Yours is way cooler -- way to get them interested in reading!
How cool that your small town in TN does something that big! There are summer reading programs at our library...but there is no "prize" except the joy of reading. Or maybe it's a pencil. Or something. But that pavillion and party - WOW!
Very cool! I love the alien hat. Your daughters are just adorable.
We have done the summer reading program every year, but didn't this year! I completely forgot about it. I guess since we moved and all last summer, I just am off my game. Sheesh. I feel stupid.
I love to read, and I'm so thrilled to pass that love on to my sons. :o)
I'm smelling inflatable slides (all plastic-y and stuff) and a giveaway. Yes, that's what I'm smellin'.
We did this for the first time... it was fun. My girls loved the inflatables, too. And I was impressed with all the loot they got. We've already used the free kids meal coupons @ Chili's!
What a great day!!
