I'm turning into a Brit

I've been watching a LOT of British films lately. And I've noticed that my thoughts now have a British accent. Yes, I have a constant narrative in my head. I'm seeking professional help for it. Ahem. Here are some signs that I might be morphing into a Brit.

1. I greet my kids each morning by saying "Allo guv"

2. I've taken to calling idiot drivers "wankers"

3. My new favorite curse word is "sod off"

4. I've started recognizing British topography on t.v. and referring to it as if I was just there yesterday

5. My iPod is stuck on The Cure's "Just Like Heaven"

6. I no longer have to subtitle Brit films. I can understand the accents perfectly. Well, almost perfectly.

7. I had to stifle my urge to hug the barista at Starbucks when she started speaking in a Brit accent. My countrywoman.

Do you ever feel like you identify with another country's people? Or, do you ever wish you could just pick up an accent for a day and be someone else completely? That is, without your friends and family questioning whether or not they should have you committed.

You know I love Brits as much as you do! I'm telling you, you've got to start watching these Midsomer Murders. Tons of fun to watch and very cute sidekick cops to go with!

I was saying bollocks for a while but then Gert started saying it and well....

I do have to laugh - Gerts been in school with the southern kids for a little over a week now, and she's starting to drawl. (Not drool.. that would be different)

Hubby travels so much and works with so many foreigners that we tend to pick up their slang instead of ours. And I read and watch a LOT of British stuff.

I would love to have a Gaelic accent. That would rock. I think I'd like to visit Ireland and Scotland, but you um...have to get on a boat or plane for that and homey don't play that.

We have bits of British slang as part of our vocab. It can partially be blamed on my friend Kerry who is from England. We have our wellies. Our dodgy knees. And bloody relatives. On the other hand, a lot of the time I spent talking to her, I end up yelling "speak English!" :-)

I love the British and Scottish accents but MOST especially the South African ones. Mmmmmm.

And Mister Man listens to Thomas CDs all the time and my parents let him WATCH Thomas, so he does the "'allo Guv'na" alll the time. Hilarious to see a little four year old walking around with a British accent.

And sod off is sooooooo much fun to say, especially in your head!

LOL! I think I too, will adopt "sod off" as my new favorite swear!

Now that you have the fancy cable, have you guys discovered Charlie & Lola? I think its a Playhouse Disney cartoon... or its on Noggin, I can't remember. But they're Brits ...we love watching it just to hear them talk! Its so cute.

LOL, everything does sound better with an accent!
There was a little boy behind me in line for the bathroom once, who proclaimed "I have to crap so badly." But he was British and it sounded so... fancy! :)

I love that you're turning into a Brit. Now you need to share with us what British films you've been watching so we can all join in...

And don't go all Britney Spears on us, ok? I heard she was talking in a British accent around the time she shaved her head and went all cukoo.

Oh, I'm totally part British. Between Charlie & Lola for the girls and Torchwood & Doctor Who on BBC America for me...well, I'm surrounded. And I love Brit humor...they just get it, you know?

I actually used some Brit slang just a while ago...'cause today I've felt completely knackered. There is not other word to appropriately describe it.

Great post, Angie--loved it!
