Danger, Will Robinson

I have developed a pretty serious fear over the last several years. I'm not sure where it manifested from, but I know that it's getting worse. Here's an example.

I attended a home sales party at a friend's house last week. As I'm driving towards her house, I'm enjoying the scenery. The farms, the livestock, the nuclear plant's cooling towers. SCREECH... See Angie. See Angie driving merrily. See Angie having anxiety attack on the side of the road.

Yes, I live rather close to a nuclear power facility. I've grown up listening to the sirens being tested once a month, EVERY month. I've seen the road signs indicating which direction I SHOULD run in, just in case a meltdown occurs. However, if that were to happen, I'm not very optimistic that running in any direction would really help. But I digress.

And so, many have patted my shoulder and tried to comfort my fear of the nuclear plant. Except, that isn't what I'm afraid of. It's the cooling towers. Yes, I'm afraid of 2 large concave structures that are pretty innocuous. I'm not sure why, but I know that upon catching a glimpse of these things, my heart starts to pound, my breathing becomes labored and I need to move in the opposite direction. Quickly.

As a friend pointed out to me yesterday, it's really the 2 domed buildings NEXT to the cooling towers that I SHOULD be afraid of. You know, the buildings that actually house the nuclear material. But, they don't even put a blip on my screen. ???

I was hoping to take a step towards dealing with my fear by putting a picture of a cooling tower on this entry. However, when I almost passed out just looking at Google Images, I decided against the picture. See, I told you this was bad.

And so, I ask, do you have an unnatural fear about anything? Something that makes people look at you strangely when you tell them about it?

You know what my greatest fear of the week/month/year is! If I can get past that, I'll be fine. I know exactly what kind of panic attack and anxiety you're referring to, because that's how my fear makes me feel too. More on that story later...

But wow, I did not know this was worrying you! I STILL remember that year at CVP where they scared us to death to prove a point. That has always stuck with me. And yeah, growing up in the shadow of that place, I always worried after that. Not before, mind you, but after, LOL!

Love and hugs!

I can't say as though I do, but I did want to say I'm sorry about yours.

Maybe if you found a photoshopped picture of some eye candy in FRONT of the cooling towers???

Lucky for me, I've never seen a cooling tower, so at least for now, I'm all good with them. But ummm I probably wouldn't do well living near a nuclear plant.

My irrational fear is being crashed into by another car. I constantly have images as I'm driving of the accident I'll be involved in. I'm convinced this is how I'm going to die. And yeah... people look at me weird when I mention this.

I'm afraid of anything behind a mask, especially costumed characters. Have been all my life. I wrote about it a while back.

I can't be in a room, conversation, etc. About anything to do with "the end of the world". This stems from watching a Nostradomus video when I was 13. I can deal with death, but not the aforementioned thing!!!!

I'm not totally sure... I may have one but not encountered it just yet. but I have other things that freak me out... like if my hubby is hugging me with my arms under his... I really panic...my heart starts to beat out of control, I feel like I can't breath I start to hyper-ventilate and then freak out majorily... he finds this quite funny... but it really is disturbing to me.

I also have some very vivid dreams that FREAK me out and then I think about them for days trying to convince my mind that it really was a dream and there is no reason to be sad or freaked out or whatever I was from it.

Not sure if these are relateable to your fear... but at least hearing these you shouldn't feel like you are the only one w/ something that bothers them.

How did I not know that Chattanooga has a nuclear power plant? You said this is a recent fear? I wonder what it stems from if you used to be able to drive by them without the panic.

Maybe a little valium would be your cure all? :-)

I'd be scared of a nuclear power plant also. I've never seen one before (besides on the Simpsons and cartoon buildings aren't scary). I'm going to have to Google it, I guess.

I think empty swimming pools do me in. Totally creepy and freak me out.

Thanks for coming by to the top of the hill and leaving a comment. I love those pictures too.

Not sure if it is a fear as such but not a great fan of belly button fluff!

We have the Salem nuclear power plant here in NJ. (I read that Bruce Willis worked there as a security guard before he started acting classes)
The plant uses the Delaware bay for it's cooling. While it's not close enough that I can see it when doing my weekly errands, it's still in southern NJ and that's a concern as our state isn't THAT big.
As if that isn't bad enough, I have a cell tower really really close by. Some say the antenaes aren't harmful and maybe so, but one day a week, when the buildings generator runs it fills my yard with the smell of diesel and I can even smell it in the house. So that's no fun.

Hmmm.... unnatural fear???
I cannot look at pictures or documentaries on anything Hindenburg. Or any of those big airships from way back when. I'm sorta fascinated by them on one hand, but on the other I immediately start to cry when I see one. It's that BAD.

Wait...you're in Chattanooga? How did I not know this? I drive through there on my way to visiting my folks in Georgia. Girl...we must meet up sometime!

OK, back to you...
Sorry for your fear. It would scare me, too.

Hmmmmmm...what am I afraid of? I'm pretty fearless...it's the little things that frighten me...such as Jesse Jackson (he scares the crap out of me!), not follwing my dreams (that's kinda big, now that I think of it!), stepping on a frog or a worm in my yard (ick!), having diarrhea in a public bathroom (oh the horror, the shame!), and elevators in high-rise buildings or hotels--I get motion sickness very easily.

I'm a conundrum, I know...

Oh, you poor thing. All of us have fears, it's how we deal with them that makes us stand out.

Me? I have lots of fears ...... big black ants biting me, the dark, running out of chocolate.....
