Perfect Day for a Picnic

Well, you know that summer in the Tennessee Valley has arrived when you open the door and the trees are sweating, the flowers are wilting and your dog won't even go outside. It's hot around here! The thermometer was a balmy 94 degrees and the humidity was a mere 45%, so we decided to brave the elements and take the girls to one of our favorite spots yesterday. This local park, on the riverfront, has this AWESOME interactive fountain that kids of all ages flock to when the heat is just too much outside. We arrived early enough in the morning to stave off the droves of people that arrived closer to lunchtime. Here's our wonderful outing in photos.

Here's hubby with the 2 little angels. Aren't they cute! The animals surrounding the fountain have nozzles in their mouths which are brilliant at squirting unsuspecting parents at the most inopportune times. Such as when you're trying to take a photo of your family.

I love this picture. It really catches my oldest with a priceless look on her face. She's not much of a daredevil, so she knows that trouble is brewing when daddy scoops her up and heads into the fountain with her. She was not amused.

Now, she might not be a daredevil, but a climber she DEFINITELY is. I think she scaled every animal surrounding the fountain this time. That makes mommy very nervous. Something about slippery concrete and head injuries.

This is my youngest. I could eat this picture right up! She wasn't quite sure about these small bursts that ended up as huge geysers every few minutes. She kept swatting at them in the hopes that they would behave.

And finally, after a morning of water fountain fun, we relaxed on the banks of the Tennessee River and enjoyed a wonderful picnic. It was a great day!

Looks like you had a beautiful day! That fountain park looks like a blast!

Thanks for stopping by...I hate to tell you but I searched high and low for a study plastic pool. As far as I could tell, no one makes them anymore. Just the blow-up ones that last about 15 minutes (at my house anyway). I can't remember if I said in my post but I got that one from craigslist. Step 2 stopped making them a couple of years ago.

And thanks for the compliment on the bench. But honestly, it's so easy. You don't have to be handy or talented. Just get yourself a little sandpaper, some spray primer and some spray paint. Very easy.

That sounds like so much fun! We have a spray park by us that does some similar things but haven't been there yet this year. Love the pics!

So how exactly do trees sweat? The concept scares me a little.

Also.. if you're looking for the old fashioned pools, we have two that we bought each of the last two years. The local hardware store had them (Ace in our neck of the woods), as did Toys 'R Us. Good luck!

So pretty. All of our fountains like that are dry - cut off due to government orders - with the drought and all. Of course we're all still sweatin' and our humidity is high enough that we can stir the air.

We did not venture over to the community pool today...but turned the heat off on the hot tub and used that instead!

Now...get back to your dating stories. ;-)

Kimba: We definitely had a ball! I'm not giving up hope on finding a sturdy pool yet. Thanks for the heads up!

Michelle: I'm sure if trees could sweat, they would. Maybe I should have find a kinder metaphor. :-) Now, I'm off to Ace and ToysRUs to demand a new pool! Thanks!

Kat: You poor Georgians! This drought is no good. I'm glad we live so close to the river because I think other parts of TN are in the same spot you are. And I promise, a new dating story tonight! :-)

Rhea: Thanks! It was da bomb!
