Diva Ballerinas

Today was one of those days that made me really happy to be mom of 2 girls.

Yesterday, I was driving all around town, screaming expletives at idiot drivers because I had (as usual) waited until the last minute to find leotards, tights and ballet shoes for both my girls. You see, this morning, they began their very first ballet class. I signed them up a couple of months ago and have been marking the days off my calendar, in anticipation of this moment.

I'm not a girly-girl by any stretch of the imagination. I own 1 dress and that's exactly how many times it's been worn...once. I live in shorts and t-shirts in the summer and jeans and long sleeve shirts in the winter. I haven't used a hair dryer in YEARS and can count on 1 hand the number of times in the last 15 years that I've worn makeup. Like I said, I'm pretty low-maintenance.

But, when it came to the thought of my 2 little princesses in ballet slippers and tutus, well, I almost tear up at the idea. And so, I dressed them in their little outfits and took them to the studio and proceeded to watch the magic happen.

We're ready for our close-up, Mr. DeMille. Serious dancers don't smile you know.

This class is called Fairytale Princess Ballet. Each week, the class members get to wear a different princess costume. At the end, they pick their favorite costume and Cinderella comes to visit them for their finale. I can hardly wait!

Here's my youngest, cracking a smile. We wouldn't want anyone to think that she's actually enjoying herself or anything.

Oh, back to the serious stare. Working this wand is a serious job.

Here's my oldest, the queen of the divas. She's 3 and a half and is already copping attitude like a 14 year old. Oh boy, there's going to be some rough years ahead, I can already tell! She was digging the costume though. She was the only student who wore it the whole time. I was afraid she was going to insist on bringing it home with us.

A diva simply must have her rest.

Adorable. Last Saturday was my eldest's 4th recital...I bawled when she took to the stage, as usual. Next year our youngest (2.5) begins dance and I cannot even imagine what it will be like to have two daughters on that stage. I am also blessed with a husband, who, upon seeing his daughter piouretting across the stage, remarked, "Who needs a son when a guy can gave THIS?" I so love him.

Sooo cute. This is the one area (Oh, and the shopping for clothes area) where the three boys just don't measure up--pink tutus! So sweet. I love the fairy tale dress up what fun.

Lula: Thanks for the visit! I certainly see lots of tears being shed over many recitals for years to come. And isn't is great to have hubbys that love their daughters! :-)

HRH: Wow, I feel honored to have you pay me a visit! I love your site! Thanks for the comment love! And yes, my friends with boys are constantly talking of the perks of pink tutus and such.

I remember those days. So, so sweet. And now they wear deodorant and want to talk about sex.

Oh that's too fun. I'll be interested to hear how the ballet classes go. Most of my friends have girls Mister Man's age (4 1/2 turning 5) and did ballet starting at 3. I heard some bad stories, so I've vowed to hold Little miss off until she's 4. This class sounds like it's a great fit though. Definitely interested to get some follow ups on the classes and your and their thoughts on them!

I am so not a girlie girl either, but these two are adorable.... now I must catch up on the heartache story!

Kat: Oh my, I'm so not ready for those days ahead. I think I need an Advil now...

Michelle: So far, so good! I'll definitely post more about the ballet classes as the summer continues. It goes for 8 weeks and I think 1 class/week is just right.

American in Norway: I have a feeling my girls are indulging me at this point. My oldest insisted on playing t-ball with hubby this evening and my youngest is OBSESSED with basketball. We'll see what interests reign supreme in a couple of years. :-)

Angela: I sure hope so! Auntie will definitely have to come check out a performance if this ballet career continues!

Insana Mama: Thanks so much! I think I'll keep them. :-) And more heartache story on the way...
