How to Speak Southern

I've lived in the South my whole life and I've prided myself in the fact that I really didn't have much of a Southern accent. That is, until recently. And the reason I know that my drawl has gotten stronger is because I'm starting to hear it in Little A's accent. Presenting, "Little A's Guide to the Southern Accent".

When Little A is hungry, she requests a snack.

When Little A spilled some milk on her shirt, she alerted me to the issue.

Little A is a girly girl. She shows off her pajamas and then Big A jumps in for attention.

Note to self: Hire a dialect coach...pronto.

Do not hire a dialect coach. That is the cutest thing ever! I say embrace the two syllable sounding words (that are really only one syllable) because it is freakin' adorable!!!

OMG I LOVE IT!!! I was worried when I saw the title that it would be a voice recording of me!!! MUCH CUTER!! Emma's is pretty bad but I think the A sisters have her beat. She has Paul drowning down the Southern draw a bit.

She is too a-friggin'-dorable!

Shane is like that, too... born and raised here and not one lick of a Southern accent.

I still have some Yankee come out when I speak... especially on words like "home" and "road"...

LOL I am rolling in the floor about the "we-yut" one. That's TOO cute. You really must hang onto these so you can embarrass the girls BIG time when they are 12, LOL.

Seriously though, they're picking up a lot of that from other kids too. So don't stress. As they get older they'll hear themselves recorded and make the extra effort to enunciate, LOL! That's what happened to me (although I still have plenty of drawl, I like to think I at least pronounce my vowels correctly, at least for a Southerner!)

Aww, they're so cute! You've got adorable girls, and a southern accent isn't a bad thing. I will say that a good friend of mine from college grew up deeeeep in Kentucky and has NO accent because his mom was an English taecher and refused to allow him to have one. It's doable!

You would not believe how many times the girl played these videos!

Loved them, LOL! And of course that is coming from one who is dripping in southern especially when she needs it!

A southern drawl is something to be proud of!! I don't care what those dang northerners say! They've all got some kind of dialect. Chicagoans, for example, say "da" instead of "the" and "tree" rather than "three". Sounds reeeeal intelligent and educated, doesn't it? I tell my family all the time that I'd rather be a dumb a** redneck than a smart a** Yankee any day.
I KNOW how to speak well. When it's appropriate, I will enunciate and use proper English; however, while in the presence of friends and family, I will relax my language and have fun with my southern roots!
Hey, yer girls are too precious! Why they're cuter than a sackful of puppies! So, don'tju go changin anything about them there girls!!!
