It's like that Goldie Hawn/Kurt Russell movie

You know... overboard?

Hi, my name is Shannon, here to do a guest post on Angie's blog.  And I think I've OD'd on Jane Austen without realizing it.

The soundtrack to Emma has been in my minivan's CD player for the past two weeks, and I've been listening to it every once in awhile.  But it put me in the mood to watch the movie, which I did last Thursday (why hello, Jeremy Northam!)

Then that got me thinking about watching the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice... the one staring Colin Firth, which I've never seen.  So I decided to add it to my Netflix queue...

Um yeah,... it's... already... in my Netflix queue.

As is the 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice; the one with Kiera Knightley, which I have seen before (why hello, Matthew MacFadyen!)

As well as Regency House Party (I watched this when it originally aired on PBS... and wished I could have been a participant!  Well, not so much for the matchmaking aspect, seeing as how I was/am a happily married woman.  But to experience the Regency Period... how cool would that be?!!?!?  Or maybe I'm the only one who thinks playing a game of whist while wearing an empire-waisted gown sounds like a good way to spend an evening...)

Oh, it doesn't stop with music and movies...

After recent trips to a local used bookstore and two national booksellers over the last week or so, I have the following stacked on my nightstand:

The Darcys and the Bingleys by Marsha Altman

Mr. Darcy's Diary and Mr. Knightley's Diary both by Amanda Grange (with a sticky note reminder to look for Colonel Brandon's Diary the next time I'm out at a bookstore)

The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler

Mr. Darcy's Daughters and The Second Mrs. Darcy by Elizabeth Aston

Austenland by Shannon Hale

Seriously, people.  I think it's time for an intervention.

You're probably right...you do need an intervention...but leave the hot studly guy pictures here with us...we'll take care of them while you're gone!

Um....it isn't possibly to OD on Austin. No it isn't.

you can't OD on Jane Austen. She is a classic. I love all of those time period movies and such! YEP and it helps that the men are Super HOT

Yeah, intervention? Not so much. I love all things Jane Austen and sometimes I believe I was born about 100 years too late.

Obsession is a good thing.

You MUST MUST MUST bump P&P (the long A&E version) to the top of your Queue... it ROCKS the socks off the Kiera Knightly one.

Oh my goodness. That is some kind of busy you got going on their. You definetly need an intervention.

I so enjoyed the pictures.

I feel like I have this Jane Austen obsession as well. But I can't read her books. OH, how I've tried. But the language just bogs me down. I have seen the movies (except for the A&E version with Colin Firth - I added it to my Christmas list!), read Austenland, confessions of a Jane Austen addict, and lots of various incarnations. But the original...I just can't wrap my head around.

Are you watching the Tudors? Jeremy Northam is in that...

I read Austenland...and then sent it to Kat to read. It was fun.

It's not a bad thing to be addicted too, honestly. :o)

I see that Kat is pimping The Tudors again. I *NEED* to watch it since I ordered the DVD's huh?

I haven't read any of these books BUT I will read anything so maybe I'll check em out. Thanks!

Great! Did you NOT read my post this weekend about all the books already in my stack?

Crap. (throwing more on the pile).

I need to check the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice (hello as hot as Jeremy Northam!). I caught the Kiera Knightley verion on ABC Family a couple weekends ago, and all I could think through the whole thing was...

"did they not have a hair stylist on the set, and would it have killed Kiera to eat a hamburger once in a while."

Okay Shannon if not an intervention then a 12 step program.

Seriously you need help.

Jen said...

I think that you may be right. INTERVENTION!!!!

Jennifer said...

OMG--I'm embarrassed to say that I have not seen or read any of those!!

Michelle said...

LOL! I could just see squeezing in an intervention between the crack addicts. You need help! :)

I so wish I liked all those books and movies. I've honestly TRIED to like them. But, it just didn't happen for me.

But, I KNOW you aren't alone in your addiction. :)

You can never get enough Jane!

Seriously, I read "Austenland" and was all, "I WANNA GO!"

Let's go. Let's go to Austenland and live that life for a week or two.

That can be our intervention.

OMG--how did you miss the Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice. It is FANTASTIC. Stop what you are doing right now and bump it up to the #1 spot in your queue. Seriously, it is so good. You will not be sorry. Just make sure you have a good 6 hours to spare. It is a definite commitment. :)

What a great friend you are, guest posting like this!

I love reading. Period. I don't think you need an intervention. A new reading list, maybe, but not an intervention.
