The Tuesday Entertainment Roundup

It's been 2 weeks since the last roundup. Have you guys missed me? Let's see what I've been checking out lately.

Lars and the Real Girl - I have been wanting to see this movie since I saw the first preview for it. It stars the delicious Ryan Gosling as an introvert who invents a girlfriend, in the form of a blow up doll. I know, the premise sounds ridiculous, but let me say that I enjoyed this movie. It was sweet and touching and the performances were quite good. And I love Patricia Clarkson. Amen.

No Reservations - I have been avoiding this flick for a while because I was so concerned that it was going to be a let down. I am glad to say that I was wrong! I was expecting more romantic comedy than touching drama and I'm glad that I was mistaken. Although I found Catherine Zeta Jones performance to be flat at times, Aaron Eckhart and Abigail Breslin came through to save the day.

The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio - Ok, a show of hands for people who have even heard of this one. Anyone? Hello, is this thing on? Yeah, that's what I thought. This was an adorable little movie that had most of the things that I look for in a good movie. Great lead actors (Julianne Moore & Woody Harrelson). Based on a true story. Moments that made me laugh and cry. And an ending that I could be happy with. It's the story of a 50's housewife in a difficult marriage with 10 kids and how she enters contests to help make ends meet. Really liked it!

I received several books for my birthday last week (YAY!) and I've already started diving in to a few.

I Was A Really Good Mom Before I Had Kids by Trisha Ashworth & Amy Nobile - THIS is the book that you should receive at your baby shower instead of "What to Expect...". It's an honest portrait of how moms really feel about this blessed job of motherhood and how we can work toward keeping our sanity. I highly recommend this read for ALL moms out there who feel like they never measure up to the ridiculous standards that we put on ourselves! This book will show you that you're not alone and give you the dose of perspective that we all need.

Alright, that's it for this week. I'm in the midst of reading 3 books right now and I'm planning to stick it to Netflix this week. It's about time that we utilized that membership. Until next week!

Hmm, I'm gonna give that book a try!

I like the sound of the Defiance, Ohio movie. I know I saw a preview of it at one point, but had completely forgotten about it. You know me, not a big movie buff...

I actually read the Prizewinner book before the movie came out. My mom is huge into biographies or "based on a true story." The book is really good - you should add it to your library list.

And yes...what books did you get for your birthday??

You know, I thought the same thing about No Reservations. Aaron Eckhart and Abigail Breslin were wonderful -- especially together.

BTW...I tagged you today. :)

I really liked Lars and the Real Girl. It is definitely a weird premise, but so well acted. No Reservations - meh. The Prize Winner sounds vaguely familiar, I'll add it to my queue. I have definitely heard of that book. I'll add it to my to-read list!

The only one I've seen was No Reservations & I thought it was okay. This weekend we watched Last House on the Left. Plot wise it was pretty good; however I wouldn't recommend you watch it because there is a VERY graphic rape scene that we both found VERY disturbing.

I think that one scene ruined the entire movie.

I caught the very end of Lars about a week ago... I've been meaning to see when it comes on again, so I can watch the whole thing. Of what little I saw of it, I liked.

And you really cannot go wrong with Ryan Gosling. Amen.

I know this is an old post but I was going back through your blog.

Lars and the Real Girl--Our library has this I've passed it over but I think I'll check it out next time I'm there.

No Reservations - I'm glad I saw it but once was enough

The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio -
I got this from the library but fell asleep in the middle and never bothered to check it back, I might have to try it again.

From a later post- I liked I love You Man-- but it was kinda crazy-
thinking about a guy trying so hard to get a friend for the wedding.
