The Tuesday Entertainment Roundup

It's been a week full of movies. See Netflix, I told ya. Let's recap.

I Love You, Man - I thought there were several great scenes in this flick. Ordinarily, Paul Rudd is one of my favorites, but his performance was just not good at times. Overall, I'm glad I waited until it went to video. Definitely hilarious moments.

Gran Torino - This was a good movie. Clint Eastwood proves yet again that he's one of the best in Hollywood. I'm not sure I've ever heard quite this many racial slurs in one movie (especially spouted off by a single character), but it all seemed to work. It starts out kind of slow, but the ending is worth it.

Get Smart - I had such high hopes for this one. I think Steve Carrell is HILARIOUS. This movie...wasn't. I had a few chuckles, but only made it about half-way through the film before I just couldn't take anymore and turned it off. This is probably the same reason that I never watched the original tv show. I just don't get it.

Swing Vote - Wow, this one wasn't what I expected at all. Kevin Costner plays an ignorant drunk redneck (eerily well) who holds the single vote to decide a presidential election. I was expecting more comedy and less political satire drama, but was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this one. It's not for everyone, but there's some good stuff here.

Extract - It's not often that I see a movie on opening weekend, but I know when I'm 1 of 4 people in the theater, that it's probably not a good sign. Jason Bateman is just adorable and funny with his dry delivery. Ben Affleck gives a surprisingly hilarious performance as the idiot best friend. And there's a whole host of supporting characters who have several shining moments. Overall, I wish I had waited until this one hit Netflix. Not a bad movie, just not big screen worthy.

Push - Ok, let me preface this by saying that I am NOT a big sci-fi fan. I'm more the romantic comedy or drama genre kind of gal. Having said that, this movie was a bit of a snooze-fest for me. I knew hubby would like it though. And I was right. I thought it interesting how the ending was set up. And I think Chris Evans is a major hottie. Yeah, that's about it.

For t.v. this last week, here's what things looked like.

Top Chef: Las Vegas - I love the Top Chef franchise. It's so much classier than Hell's Kitchen and way more interesting than most of the Food Network stuff. There's some great chefs competing this season! And some food this time around that I would actually try. It's a miracle.

Project Runway - Hallelujah, my man Tim Gunn is back! I adore this show.

I think that's it for this week. I've added a widget on the left hand sidebar that links to my Library List of books that I keep in my faves category. If you're interested in what I love, check it out. As I continue to tackle the 7 15 29 books that are covering my nightstand currently, I'll hopefully have more to report this Fall. And can I get an "amen" that Fall has finally arrived!

We saw Extract this weekend too, and were one of four people in there, and all I could think about was extracting myself from this snooze fest. I literally fell asleep, snores and all, during it.

there were a couple funny parts, and maybe I was expecting too much, but BLAAAHHH. The neighbor was hilarious though. I liked him. and the racist worker lady. I hope Jason Bateman gets a chance to be the lead role in a funny movie soon.

I joined Netflix last night finally so I might finally watch something other than the Wiggles!

Gran Torino was very good. I've not seen ANY of the others you talk about. I have Defiance waiting for me. Perhaps tonight. :-)

Yeah... shockingly not only have I seen none of those, but I've heard of few of them. I probably would have avoided Get Smart. As entertaining as the tv show was, I just don't see it working with today's actors. So you aren't into Chopped? Or Food Detectives? I will grant you that Chef v City is not at all entertaining though!

I agree Push didn't win me over, and Gran Torino was one of my favorite Clint Eastwood movies of all time.

I'm watching Top Chef too! Who's your favorite so far?

We love the Project Runway around here. Well - except for my husband... When my girls and I start discussing the last episode, he threatens that he'll erase it from Tivo if we continue talking about Malvin or Mitchell or the models and how they walk or some fabulous design...

Amen that fall is here!!! Woohoo!! It has been in the 60's when I leave for work in the mornings. YAYYYYYY!!!!!

Which reminds me, I need a new UGA flag. Note to self, put on to-do list!

And woman, where do you find the time to watch all this stuff? you must be watching at least one a night!? I can barely keep my eyes open to watch reruns of Family Guy or Office with hubby, because lately here I'm trying to get a Jillian a$$ kicking in each or every other day. Mostly every other, or third day, LOL!

I felt the same way about I love you man. I really did think it was going to be much funnier than it was, so I am glad I waited!

Gran Torino was my favorite movie of last year, and the best Clint Eastwood movie I have even seen. Bawled my eyes out at the end...

We just saw Gran Torino this weekend, too, and we loved it. My husband ranted for half an hour afterwards at how amazed and disappointed he was that no one got an oscar nomination (at least) for the movie.

We went and saw Inglourious Basterds this weekend. We really enjoyed it. NOT, not, not for the faint at heart, because there is definitely some violence, it is Quentin Tarantino after all, but a great movie.

I haven't seen any of these movies. Shane watched Gran Torino not too long ago... I'm just not a big Clint Eastwood fan.

I'm disappointed to hear Extract wasn't all that great. The trailer looked pretty funny.

I love my Netflix although there are 3 DVDs sitting on the TV that need to be watched. A new baby leaves little time for entertainment (or visiting bloggy friends!) I have missed you!

I left a gift for you on my blog..stop by to pick it up!
