It's All in the Hair

So, I've been complaining left and right for months about this little hair issue that I've been having. After a visit to my favorite stylist, all is better with my little world now. Let's recap.
Last November, I decided to shake things up a bit and add some blond highlights to my really dark hair. This is what you call adding insult to injury because I was already suffering from a less than appealing haircut. And voila, here's me...the zebra.
And after spending an hour and a half with my Marty, I came out with gorgeous (non-zebra) color and a cute cut that I'm not embarrassed to leave the house with.
And I also finally have a picture of myself that I absolutely love! Who knew that I was the best photographer of myself and that my bathroom has the best lighting in the world?
Thanks for listening to all of my grumbling. The hair saga is officially over. Phew.

The Hair Apparent

I'm not a girly girl.

I don't wear makeup. I don't spend 30 minutes fixing my hair every morning. I own 1 dress and the last time it was worn was 18 months ago.

So, the fact that I have begun to obsess over the state of my hair has got me in a real funk. As I showed you here, I decided to go with some color around Thanksgiving and now, well, I'm in "transition" mode. And I don't like it. The color is growing out, my roots are awful and the cut could best be described as "shaggy dog-ish". It doesn't look good.

For the past 3 weeks, I've been lamenting about how I can't afford to go see my former hairdresser. You know, the guy I could always depend on to tell me the truth and not send me out the door looking like a circus freak.

And then yesterday, the clouds parted, the rays shone down upon my mailbox and out popped an "I Miss You" postcard from my beloved hairdresser, with a sweet coupon that puts him into my price range again. Hallelujah!

And yes, Marty, I'll be calling you today to make an appointment. Oh, how I've missed you too.

Blonde Ambition

I've spent the better part of my life blending into the crowd. I'm not much of a risk-taker when it comes to fashion or beauty. I don't wear makeup. I don't read fashion magazines. Most of my wardrobe includes pieces that are 5+ years old.
However, since I've started blogging, a part of me has emerged that is daring and wants to take a walk on the wild side every now and then. Try new things. Expand my horizons.
For months now, my IRL buddy Shannon & I have been talking about walking in Rhea's footsteps and trying something new with our hair. And so, the night before Thanksgiving, we got a wild hair (no pun intended) and headed to the salon.
Here's me before (and without any alcohol, miraculously)
And here's Shannon before (I don't think she had been drinking either, LOL)

Here I am sitting under the dryer pondering if I've just made an enormous error by telling the teenage stylist to "just do something bold"

And Shannon shows me her Daniel Craig impression

Shannon told her teenage stylist to take a little of the top. Apparently, "little" is a relative term to these people.

And so, after 2 hours in the salon, we emerged as new and daring bloggers. I looked like a zebra with brown and blonde stripes and Shannon had a shorter "do" with a few strategically placed red streaks. We have arrived.

Here's a close up of my new hair. The most interesting thing about it is that every morning, I wake up with a new set of colors on my head. This has been more of an adventure than even I expected. Note to self: Next time I decide to take on a new and daring hairstyle, spend the money and go to the very experienced stylist who demands more direction than "do what you want".
