Friday's Foto Finish Fiesta

Allow me to introduce you to Big A's best friend. His name is White Baby. He is well-loved as you can see. He's more of a dingy, beige baby right now. This particular morning, he was covered in the orange Fruit Loops that Big A doesn't care for in her cereal.
Anyway, back to his name. I get more strange looks from people about this bear's name, which result in my feeling like I need to explain where it comes from. So, let's review.
When Big A started talking, she referred to all of her teddy bears as "babies". When we figured out that she had too many "babies", we started asking her what each one's specific name was. Being incredibly intelligent, she named them based on what color they were. So, we have red baby, blue baby, purple baby, green baby, etc.
White Baby was her absolute favorite (as you can see). She took him everywhere. And so, I have told this story MANY a time when an unsuspecting person asks her what his name is. I don't know if it's because we live in the South, that we get these strange looks, but alas, it's a way of life for us now.
And so, I salute White Baby today on the Fx4. He's brought so much happiness to my girl and I'm hoping that he brings even more in the years to come.

Off to the races

Our backyard has a pretty serious slope to it. The girls love to take advantage of it every time they're in the backyard. Let's check this out.
Big A is up first. Little A cheers her on.
Wheeee!!!!!!

That was fun mommy!

Ok Little A...it's your turn.

Getting into place

Wheeeeee!!!!

I love to ride my "cycle" mommy!

And on another day, Big A shows us her master wagon navigation skills. Meanwhile, hubby tries to fix Little A's ponytail. Let's see how this plays out.

Big A holds on for dear life. Little A isn't remotely bothered by Daddy holding on to the back of her head.

Little A is still moving. Daddy is still holding on.

Big A flags Little A in while Daddy finishes up the ponytail repair.

Little A is all smiles and Daddy laughs at his trip down the backyard. Actually I was laughing pretty hard myself.

My Valentines

I know Valentine's Day has passed, but I didn't have the chance to post about my 3 favorite people in this world. The reasons that I get out of bed everyday and the reasons that I strive to be a better me.
Here's Little A at her V-Day party at preschool. Another mom pointed out to me that Little A ate her cookie first, certainly before anything healthy on her plate. Yeah, that's because it's so rare that she gets to eat stuff like that, so she jumps on the opportunity. LOL!

Little A loves the playground at school. Peek-a-boo you sweet thing!

Big A also enjoyed her class party. And I would like to point out that SHE ate all her cheese cubes first. Then she dove into the cupcakes.

This is Big A's new friend, B. He's a little player. Big A is the 3rd girl in class that he's shown affection towards and he's already moved on to another classmate. Those boys...they're so fickle. Get used to it now, Big A. It only gets worse from here. LOL!

Happy belated Valentine's Day to you all from me and the loves of my life!

It's All in the Hair

So, I've been complaining left and right for months about this little hair issue that I've been having. After a visit to my favorite stylist, all is better with my little world now. Let's recap.
Last November, I decided to shake things up a bit and add some blond highlights to my really dark hair. This is what you call adding insult to injury because I was already suffering from a less than appealing haircut. And voila, here's me...the zebra.
And after spending an hour and a half with my Marty, I came out with gorgeous (non-zebra) color and a cute cut that I'm not embarrassed to leave the house with.
And I also finally have a picture of myself that I absolutely love! Who knew that I was the best photographer of myself and that my bathroom has the best lighting in the world?
Thanks for listening to all of my grumbling. The hair saga is officially over. Phew.

Who are you?

Many of my favorite blogs do a feature periodically that showcases what keywords that people Google to end up on their blog. For that reason solely, I installed Google Analytics on my blog several months ago and proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait. I kept waiting for all of the funny keywords and interesting phrases to show up and they never did. Lots of words that I expected showed up time and time again. Until last night, that is. And so, I bring you my first edition of:

Who Are You and How Did You End Up Here?
  1. "Pic of Angies Show Palace" - Hubby & I have done a lot of work on this house, but I don't think I would call it a show palace. Hubby might differ on that opinion though since he's done more of the work and I've done more of the supervising.
  2. "Entertainment Addiction" - Yes folks, you came to the right place. My name is Angie and I have an entertainment addiction.
  3. "Angie in Twilight" - Yeah, I wish. (Rob: call me. Please.)
  4. "Cinderella Kiss" - That would SO happen if I could just get a call from the aforementioned vampire film star.
  5. "Hate Oriental Trading Company" - Hate is such a strong word. It's no secret that I'm not a big fan of this company, but I wouldn't say I hate them. Best Buy: now THAT'S a company I hate.
  6. "Vasectomy" - ??? I'm sure hubby is also thinking ???
  7. "There's a new in town screaming teenage girls" - My question here is what is the new ______ in town that's causing all this chaos? I'm sure I don't know.
  8. "Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell hot tub" - I can thank my buddy Shannon's guest post in December for the many variations of Goldie/Kurt traffic that I receive. This one in particular amused me greatly though. Who is looking for a hot tub anything of these 2? Yuck.
  9. "Iceland kids crafts" - If I had any idea that this would such a popular google phrase, I wouldn't have made QUITE as much fun of my brother for spending his Thanksgiving holiday there. I still think he's nuts for going to Iceland in Winter, but hey, at least my kids got a cool souvenir out of it.
  10. "Mexican lust foto" - I just laugh and laugh at how this sent anyone here. I'm pretty sure this reader DIDN'T find what they were looking for. However, I might be able to dig up a pic of me from my trip to Cancun many years ago. On second thought, maybe not.

And there are just a few of the interesting ways that my readers arrived here. I'll have another round of these probably next week. And I've saved a couple of really interesting ones for that post.

Monday Morning Eye Candy ~ The Oscar Edition

The Oscars each year are for me, like Christmas morning. Such wonderful things wrapped up in such nice bows. Here are a few of my favorite presents this year.
Hugh Jackman - That man wasn't voted sexiest man alive for nothing. AND he can sing & dance! And he's a devoted husband & dad! Be still my racing heart.
Zac Efron - This talented cutie hopefully has a lot of years left in the industry. Stick with the classics darling. You can't go wrong there.

Robert Pattinson - I almost fainted when I heard that he was going to be a presenter. I might have to leave this year's telecast on my DVR so I can go back and watch him over and over and over... (BTW, this is the new wallpaper on my laptop. Shhh, don't tell hubby)

Emile Hirsch - I just love this guy. He's humble and an amazing actor. And he can rock a tux.

Daniel Craig - Shannon, this one's for you baby.

Whether you like awards shows or not, I think we can all agree that a hot guy in a fabulous tux is just something nice to enjoy more often than not. Have a wonderful Monday!

The Hair Apparent

I'm not a girly girl.

I don't wear makeup. I don't spend 30 minutes fixing my hair every morning. I own 1 dress and the last time it was worn was 18 months ago.

So, the fact that I have begun to obsess over the state of my hair has got me in a real funk. As I showed you here, I decided to go with some color around Thanksgiving and now, well, I'm in "transition" mode. And I don't like it. The color is growing out, my roots are awful and the cut could best be described as "shaggy dog-ish". It doesn't look good.

For the past 3 weeks, I've been lamenting about how I can't afford to go see my former hairdresser. You know, the guy I could always depend on to tell me the truth and not send me out the door looking like a circus freak.

And then yesterday, the clouds parted, the rays shone down upon my mailbox and out popped an "I Miss You" postcard from my beloved hairdresser, with a sweet coupon that puts him into my price range again. Hallelujah!

And yes, Marty, I'll be calling you today to make an appointment. Oh, how I've missed you too.

The World's Most Wanted...Really?

Every Sunday morning, I have this little ritual. Hubby usually lets me sleep in and then he brings me the enormous Sunday paper so I can enjoy reading through it while still in my cozy bed. I organize it all and finally make it to my Parade Magazine that I enjoy reading every week.

A couple of weeks ago, they had a cover story that I couldn't wait to read. It was entitled "The World's Most Wanted." I have this odd fascination with all things "news magazine" related. I eat up Dateline's "To Catch a Criminal" and 48 Hours Mysteries series'. I know. Let's call it morbid curiosity. Moving on.

I began reading the article and learned about some really awful people. Murderers, terrorists, masterminds behind genocides and other disgusting and horrible criminals who are still on the loose. And then I came across something that caused me to do a triple take.

One of the world's most wanted criminals is a 60 year old Russian who was indicted for, and I quote "fixing pairs skating in the '02 Olympics". Seriously? THIS guy is a world's most wanted? I mean he's on a list with Osama Bin Laden for heaven's sake.

Now, I'm not saying that what the skating guy did was minimal, but I AM asking for a little perspective here. Parade, I think you might have missed the mark on this one. Leaving this guy out of your story would've given it a lot more credibility. This guy just doesn't quite measure up to the level of evil that say, the leader of the Rwandan genocide emotes. I'm just sayin'.

Say Cheese!

As I've mentioned here many, many times, I am a huge fan of The Amazing Race. The new season began this past weekend and I can already tell that this is going to be my favorite season so far!

The first reason hits really close to home. The team I am rooting for is Margie & Luke who are a mother/son team. The inspiring thing is that Luke is completely deaf and he doesn't let his impairment get in his way. He's on the show to prove that deaf people can do things just the same as hearing people and so far, he's off to a great start! I was in tears watching he & his mom come in first place on the first pit stop. Go team!

The second reason this season rocks is because of one of the first challenges presented. I could explain it but you would have to wait for me to wipe away the tears from all of my laughter, because I seriously cry every time I look at this video. It's.that.funny. The contestants are in Switzerland and have been tasked with moving 50lb wheels of cheese from the top of a very steep hill to the bottom of this hill using any means necessary. Enjoy.

Monday Morning Eye Candy

Wow, it's a busy and wonderful week around here! Let's keep the momentum going with some more cute guys this week. This week, I'm showcasing some guys that you've probably never heard of, but they're cute nonetheless. So without further ado, here they are!
Chris Tschupp - He's a hockey player, a model and totally hot.
Callum Keith Rennie - This actor caught my attention during season 2 of the show, Californication. Way cute!

Jay Harrington - This hottie has been playing one of the jerky new doctors on Private Practice. I can look past the jerk-ish tendencies with eyes like that.

That's it for this week! I hope you've enjoyed these cuties and that you'll join me here next week for my special Oscar edition of MMEC. Expect lots of A-list hotties and some in their penguin suits looking dashing. Have a great week everyone!

Lula Queen Live: The Interview

Coming live to you from her studio in Los Angeles (by way of Pennington Gap) is the famous Lula! (cue the applause)

And tonight on Lula Queen Live is the blogger that everyone is talking about. Tonight's guest is the elusive Angie from Angie's Spot. Will Lula be able to crack that stone facade and get her to answer the tough questions that THE WORLD WANTS TO KNOW? Let's find out.

Lula: Good evening Angie!

Angie: Hi Lula! It's great to be here.

Lula: Angie, I'm so glad you've joined us this evening. Let's get right to this. I've asked my viewers to give me their most burning questions for you to answer. Straight from my blog, here's the first question.

Angie: I'm ready Lula.

Lula: Penny from Poughkeepsie writes, "Angie, if you could rid the earth of one thing, what would it be?"

Angie: Wow, you certainly didn't throw me a softball with this first question. I would have to say that if I could rid the earth of one thing, it would be cancer. I know too many people who have been impacted by this disease and it needs to be stopped. If I could pick a second thing, it would DEFINITELY have to be those stupid Sonic commercials with the 2 people in the car talking to each other. So annoying.

Lula: Yeah, I'm not a fan of those Sonic commercials either, but their Cherry Limeades over pellet ice are just fabulous!

Angie: Well, I can't disagree with that.

Lula: Next, Lana from Louisville writes, "If you had a time machine that could only move back in time, where would you go and who would you see?"

Angie: Another tough one. I think I would travel back in time to Nicaragua around 1954. Nicaragua is where my dad is from and his father was killed in a helicopter crash when my dad was very young. I would want to see what that country looked like before it was war torn and to meet my paternal grandfather.

Lula: Oh my, that's so sad. Let's move on. Iris from Indianapolis wants to know if you would please share with us a vivid memory from your childhood?

Angie: I would love to Lula! One memory that is still crystal clear in my mind is from a summer at Girl Scout Camp Adahi. I was REALLY into horses, much like every young girl is, and that summer I was in love with a quarter horse named Red. I learned to barrel race with that horse and came in 3rd place in our end of camp competition. I still have the yellow ribbon for my achievement. Gosh, I still love horses and am already seeing that same love blossoming in my oldest girl. Sorry, I'm getting a little teary.

Lula: Oh, that's so sweet. I understand what you mean. I've got 2 little girls too! Our next question comes from Helen in Honolulu. She writes, "Angie, if you pick any celebrity to be your slave for a week, who would it be and what duties would you require of him?"

Angie: (laughing heartily) Oh Lula, this is a really hard one for me! As my loyal readers know, I am a great admirer of hot celebrity men and feature a few of them each week in my increasingly popular "Monday Morning Eye Candy" post. But, if I had to pick just one, well, I know exactly who it would be. And don't hate me, but it would be Robert Pattinson. As far as his duties, well they would include playing the piano for me, saying silly British lingo like "Where's the loo", "You're bloody fabulous" and "Horses for courses", and well, I try to keep this blog PG, so we'll just stop right there. (still laughing heartily)

Lula: Well, before we start getting the WRONG types of calls from viewers, let's wrap this up with our last question this evening. Shannon from Saskatchewan says, "Everyone has a talent of some sort. What is yours, how do you use it and how often do you use it?"

Angie: I would say that my talent is making people feel at ease with my smile. I smile a LOT and it's often the thing that people say they remember most about me or like the most. I love being around people and listening to what they have to say, so if my smile can accomplish that often, then I'm thrilled!

Lula: A warm smile is such a wonderful talent to have! It's just one of the things that I love about you. Thank you so much for coming to my show tonight!

Angie: Lula, I just think you're the best and am honored to be your guest tonight. Tell those girls of yours that I said hi and tell your best friend Paula that I'm still looking for my autographed cookbook that she promised me.

Lula: Girl, you know I will. Paula and I are like this, you know! And join me tomorrow when my special guests will be the cast from LOST. You won't want to miss this. And have a great evening y'all!

**My many thanks to Lula for interviewing me!

Now...I would love to interview you and you and you.
So here is what you do:
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by emailing you five questions. (I get to pick the questions).
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
So come on--let's get to know each other better. And do not fear potential questions--I promise to play very nice.

  75. I would love to work with sick kids who need a pick me up that a dog can provide like nothing else.

  88. The cemetery where he is buried is 5 minutes from my house.
  89. Every year, they do a luminary at each grave site on one particular evening. The sight of it almost sends me into a panic attack every year.

Posts of Note

I've wanted to do a post like this as a regular feature for a while now, so we'll see how this goes. I have 75 blogs in my reader currently and I am constantly finding great posts that I want to get the word out about. So, this week, I'm taking the opportunity to share some of my favorite found posts this week. I hope you enjoy them too!
  • I love inspirational people and Lilly is just amazing! Her hubby has Stage 4 cancer, but she's trying to keep a positive attitude. She's doing a GREAT Valentine's giveaway that you should check out and share with others.
  • For anyone here who has never visited Bossy, well, you're missing out big time. She's quite possibly the funniest blogger that I read and she's a pop culture, music, and politics junkie, which I adore. She did a post this week on that stupid HGTV show that I whined about a few weeks ago called House Hunters. It.was.brilliant.
  • My other favorite female blogger is Jen Lancaster, who is also (not coincidentally) my favorite author. She & I have a similar interest in all things cupcake. Side note, my cupcakes look like her 2nd picture 99% of the time.
  • Many people are familiar with the incredibly popular Bloggess. She's irreverent, crude, potty-mouthed and those are just a few of the things that I like about her. Her post about a fan's emails almost made me pee in my pants. WARNING: Her post is FULL of bad language and easily rated R, so don't click over if you're easily offended.

Preschool Relief

It's been such a busy week around here that I haven't had a chance to post about our very exciting news. This past Monday, I received a phone call from the principal of the preschool that we've been waiting to hear from and she offered us a position for Big A!
In one moment, I felt as though we had just climbed Everest, McKinley and Fuji all in 1 day. It was fabulous!
We, of course, accepted the position and the next day I made it official by heading down to the school and filling out her paperwork and signing my financial life away (thanks Dad!), but she's in. And that's all that matters to me right now.
For a moment though, I did feel kind of guilty because deep down I truly wonder if we got a spot because we played by the rules or because we tried to "work the system". Fortunately, we have lots of friends connected to the school system here and I know at least a few made calls or sent emails to the school on our behalf. Either way, I'm seriously grateful for the opportunity that my girls now have and am so excited about their educational future. It was a great week!
Thanks to all of you who commented and emailed me words of support and crossed your fingers! It really means a lot to me! Have a wonderful weekend and be ready for a very special edition of Monday Morning Eye Candy next week!

And her life is really quite busy

She works & she slaves

But occasionally takes time to play

And thinking about her Mr. B makes her misty

Our Lizzy is having a birthday today

In Plaidville it's a recognized holiday

I wish her the best

Maybe she'll get a duck & a nest

Either way, Happy Birthday I say!!

The Dream Police

I would definitely be classified as a dreamer. Both in conscious life and at night when I'm sleeping. I dream very vividly almost every night and very often in full color. It's a gift. The past couple of nights have boasted a couple of dreams that I remember very well, which is kind of unusual. Normally, I don't remember dreams in detail more than a few minutes after I wake up.

Last night, I dreamt that I was riding in a beautiful, brand new Audi with Samantha from Sex & the City. The interior of the car was upholstered in a classic Coach handbag print. ??? Apparently, I watched a rerun of SATC too close to bedtime last night and Lula's boyfriend's commercial made quite an impact on me, and I'm apparently coveting Shannon's new purse. Too funny!

A few nights ago, I dreamt that I showed up for an event where a lot of my classmates from high school were present. Now, this isn't anything spectacular, but what struck me as odd was the fact that I was my current size in the dream. That's a first! When I see myself in dreams, I am always the thin girl that I was 15 years ago. Even the dream last night starred the thin me. Isn't the mind a weird and fascinating thing?!

So, how about you? Do you dream in color? Do you dream often? Can you remember your dreams when you wake up or even days later?

Are We Done Yet?

Being the mom of 2 little girls apparently makes me a target. The target of people everywhere who have 1 question that they simply MUST ask me. "So, are you going to try again for a boy?"

I used to be amused by this question. I would take that opportunity to recreate the scene in my doctor's office when she questioned my request to have my tubes tied. And I quote, "I never EVER want to be pregnant again." And to quote my hubby, "I never EVER want her to be pregnant again." See, we agree on some things!

And then I went from amused to annoyed. It seemed in the year after Little A's birth, this question was rampant. Everywhere I turned, inquiring minds wanted to know. Friends, family, complete strangers at the mall. I couldn't get away from it!

Now that Little A is fast approaching her 3rd birthday (pardon me while I cry a bit), it seems that this question has again reared it's ugly head. We were out & about last weekend and a complete stranger walked up to me and commented on how beautiful my girls were. And then it came. "So, are you thinking about having another one? Maybe a boy this time?"

AAARRGGHH!!

I guess I need to have a t-shirt made that says "Proud Mom of 2 GIRLS...End of Story". Maybe THEN people will get it. Yeah, probably not.

Monday Morning Eye Candy

Welcome to Monday Morning Eye Candy! This week it's the flashback edition. I've received numerous requests to showcase the hotties of my youth. The cuties from the 80's/early 90's. You ask...I deliver.
Michael J. Fox - Oh, how I loved Alex P. Keaton. And in my opinion, this class act has only gotten better with age.
Kirk Cameron - Mike Seaver was the guy that we all wanted to date. And how cool that he married his girlfriend from the show! He's still a cutie in my book.

Jason Patric - There was only 1 reason that I saw The Lost Boys movie more than once. And here he is.

Grant Show - Melrose Place was one of my favorite shows with this guy playing the brooding Jake Hansen. My guess is that I've got some obsession with the name, Jake.

Emilio Estevez - Oh my how I loved me some Young Guns. That has to be one of the hottest casts EVER. And with the soundtrack by Jon Bon Jovi, well, someone pass me a cool rag already.

And there you have it! Some of the hotties from my youth. I think I might make this my standard entry on the first Monday of every month. Your thoughts? Who would you like to see in a blast from the past post?

Angie's 2009 "To Do" List ~ Progress Update

Accountability
-noun
1. the state of being accountable, liable, or answerable
2. responsibility to someone or for some activity
I started something new last year that worked out really well with my whole "to do" list for the year. For 2009, I decided to implement an additional step in helping me get my "to do" list for the year accomplished. So, I'm going to post a monthly update on my progress with the "to do" list, in the hopes that the accountability will motivate me even more! Now, let's review.
1. Getting a working budget implemented: I enrolled in the Dave Ramsey course "Financial Peace University" and am happy to report that our brand new budget rolled out today. Now, let's see if we can actually stick to it.
2. Eliminate our debt: This is next week's lesson in the above mentioned course. Hopefully next month will show some progress on this step!
3. Finish the Patten Chapel cross stitch: I'm picking this back up but have given myself until the end of March to finish one section. (Thanks for the idea Michelle!)
4. Start & finish the Bambi cross stitch for Little A: I've given myself until the end of this month to pull all of the materials together for it.
5. Weight loss and size 6 by December 1: I'm giving myself a goal of losing 8 lbs by the end of this month. Here we go!
6. Implement date night once a month with hubby: We successfully pulled this off last month! For February, we're throwing around the idea of seeing the Cirque show Kooza in Atlanta. I'm crossing my fingers!!
7. Significant progress on my novel and blogging regularly: The novel is at a stand still for the moment due to writer's block, but the blogging is getting back on track. I actually cleared out my reader last night and am going to make a concerted effort to stay on top of it this month.
8. Finish decluttering the house: I made big progress on cleaning out the master bedroom last month, but I'm going to finish that and work on the kids rooms this month.
9. Get the scrapbooks up to date: I made HUGE progress in getting all my 2008 pics uploaded to Shutterfly. (By the way, it takes approximately 36 hours to upload 3000 pics on a high speed connection. Just guessing.) I flaked on a crop this last week, but I've got another one on the calendar for this month. Baby steps!
And for those of you still with me, thank you for reading all of my drivel. Just going back and reviewing all these goals has renewed my resolve to get off my (rather large) arse and get back on the wagon!
