The Tuesday Entertainment Roundup

As busy as I was this past week, I somehow managed to watch several movies. (And I made headway on the 2 books I'm reading!) Here's the skinny.

Margot at the Wedding - I watched this one with my friend Lisa, and I think we both finished this movie saying, "Huh?!" The cast includes Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Jason Leigh, who I have adored in other roles. Suffice it to say, there's a good reason that you've probably never heard of this flick. Don't make the same mistake that we did.

The Lucky Ones - I really enjoyed this movie! It stars Tim Robbins, Rachel McAdams, & Michael Pena as injured Iraq war vets who have come home to deal with personal challenges. At times, it felt like the movie dragged a bit, but overall, hubby & I both gave this one 2 thumbs up.

Eagle Eye - GREAT MOVIE! Shia LeBeouf has redeemed himself (in my eyes) after that Indiana Jones debacle from a few weeks ago. This is a thriller with some great action sequences and a cast that is fab. Two thumbs way up!

The Ex - This is a great little movie that didn't get a lot of press, I guess. It stars Zach Braff (always hilarious), Amanda Peet (who I adore) and Jason Bateman (who plays evil a little too well). Zach & Amanda play a married couple whose relationship is tested by her old flame, Jason. Lots of great supporting characters in this flick and some GREAT writing! I definitely recommend this one.

I'm super excited that I have a "mom date" tomorrow with my buddy Shannon. We're going to see The Proposal. Ryan Reynolds...SWOON!

See y'all next week!

Monday Morning Eye Candy

Welcome back to Monday Morning Eye Candy!

As I said last week, Vanity Fair recently did a poll asking "who are the most handsome men in the world?" Here, we reviewed the top 5. This week, we'll take a look at who came in at #'s 6 through 9. Off we go!

#9 belongs to James Franco (what a cutie)

#8 is the always classic George Clooney

#7 belongs to a new fave of mine, Taylor Kitsch

And for those of you asking last week, well, #6 belongs to Hugh Jackman

Next Monday we'll be taking a break from the VF poll to take a trip to the beach. The eye candy will be traveling to a mystery destination as I'll be guest blogging for a good friend of mine. I hope you'll travel along with me! Have a great week everyone!

"Trim the Fat" Thursday

Welcome to "Trim the Fat" Thursday!

Kat sent me an email this week suggesting that I make this post a link-a-palooza event each week since there are so many of us on the weight loss wagon who could use some support. And frankly, after seeing this little ditty on Fail blog this week, it's no wonder that so many of us are falling off that wagon. (I'm the leader of the wagon jumpers, by the way)

I totally agree with Kat's suggestion and I'm here to offer up my results and encourage any of you who also want to blog a TTFT entry, to link it up here so we can come visit you and offer some words of encouragement! And without further ado, here's how I did this week.

1. I gained .6 lbs. GAH!! I'm sure massive banana splits (2 nights in a row) had nothing to do with this development.

2. I finally made it to my gym's Yoga class!! THANK YOU LISA!!

3. I took the kids bowling for an hour and I taught 2 music classes this week. If those aren't workouts, then I give up. No other gym workouts to report this week, sadly.

4. I did pretty well with my food journal. Definitely room for improvement.

5. Yeah, what was I thinking about the limiting sweets to every other day? FAIL.

So, this week, I'm trying to keep it real. Real simple.

1. Get in another yoga workout and 2 other gym workouts of some sort.
2. Keep working on the food journal.
3. Not obsess with the scale. Must get away from weighing myself every day.

So, how did you do? Link up!

What's in a name?

Let's take a stroll down memory lane.

When I was a senior in high school, I was surrounded by a pretty tight knit group of friends. Most of them had nicknames (that we still use to this day) and I was insanely jealous of this fact. At one point, I asked "Buffy" to give me a nickname. I just wanted to feel like I belonged. After running through a gamut of names that just didn't quite fit the bill, Buffy asked me what my middle name was. I told her it was Susan. And so, for about 2 days, Buffy called me "Little Susie".

GAH!

It was at that point that I decided being called Angie might not be the worst thing in the world after all.

Do you have a nickname? How did you get that nickname? What should my nickname be?

The Tuesday Entertainment Roundup

I seriously can't believe that it's already been 7 days since my last entertainment roundup. That's how fast my week went. It was a lean week of entertainment because I was SWAMPED with work, but here's what I can report.

He's Just Not That Into You - I'm a little on the fence about this one. This was definitely an all-star cast, which I found to be a little distracting. I thought there were too many characters to really get invested in any of the storylines. There were some great scenes of dialogue and I think Ginnifer Goodwin is adorable! Great movie to listen to while you're blogging. LOL! (ETA: Now that I've had a week to absorb it, I think I actually enjoyed this movie more than I originally thought. It certainly gave me a lot to think about.)

Traitor - Don Cheadle is a great actor. And this movie had a lot of promise. However, it was just too long. I can't give a lot of synopsis here without giving away some serious plot points, but it's a decent movie.

A Lion Called Christian - This hour documentary has been on my DVR for at least a month. Hubby finally convinced me to watch it. I had been avoiding it because I knew it would make me cry. And like clockwork, within the first 2 minutes of the movie, tears were streaming down my face. Ridiculous. I've got a major soft spot for animals and this doc is the backstory on the YouTube video sensation about the lion who was reunited with the 2 guys that raised him. Great story and I recommend it along with a fresh box of Kleenex.

I'm working on 2 books right now and am hoping to finish both before next Tuesday. We'll see! Tune in next Tuesday to find out.

Monday Morning Eye Candy

Sorry, I'm a little late with the eye candy today. Life has been intervening a LOT here lately. However, it's still morning somewhere, right?!

Vanity Fair recently conducted a poll asking "Who is the Most Handsome Man in the World?" Let's see who their top 5 ended up being. Roll em'!

Coming in at #5 is Clive Owen

In at #4 is the always delicious, Johnny Depp

#3 is Brad Pitt

#2 is a new one to me ~ Nacho Figueras (Muy caliente!)

And at #1...with 51% of the vote...My guy, Robert Pattinson
(and no, I didn't vote even once on this poll...seriously)

I'll be showing some more results from this poll in the coming weeks, so stay tuned! And Happy Monday!

A Fraud Exposed

I thought long and hard about writing this post. I feel as though it's necessary to make this public service announcement as I don't want anyone else to go through what I've gone through in the last 24 hours.

I signed up to participate in a swap last month and an international participant asked to join in. Due to this person being from Britain (and we all know how much I love the Brits), I volunteered to be partnered with this person. I shopped and gathered items that made up a great package and then spent an exorbitant amount of money to ship the package to England. And then I waited. And waited. And waited for my swap package to be delivered and for my partner's package to arrive. My package was delivered to my partner over a week ago and I have nothing. And now this person claims to have never received my package (I have delivery confirmation that shows it WAS delivered) and admits that they never sent me anything even though this person told the swap hostess my package was shipped well over a week ago. LIAR!

The reason I figured out that this person is a scam artist is because this individual signed up for the swap that I am hosting here. This person signed up for my swap with 2 different names, a different email and different blog address, but the same exact mailing address. So, I'm here to expose them for the thief that they are and to hopefully spare someone else out there from the same misfortune that I suffered. Please feel free to cross-post this as I want as many people to benefit from this information. Here is the crook's information.

"Trim the Fat" Thursday

Another week in review on the weight loss wagon! Here are the deets.

I did manage to keep up with the food journal pretty well. Sparkpeople is a pretty cool program, once you use it regularly. It's giving me some accountability and encouragement. Although, if I could redeem those "sparkpoints" for cool giftcards and such, I would be much more apt to log in all kinds of fab info. But I digress.

I let Jillian Michaels kick my rear around twice, but no treadmill runs or yoga poses. However, I found a whole other source of exercise that I didn't anticipate. As it turns out, I sweat almost as much with Jillian as I do when I teach a 45 minute music class to babies & parents. Go figure. I've done that 3 times in the last week.

And so, the results are in and I gained .6 lbs. Sigh. Next week will be better. (I'm feeling like a broken record here, but not losing my enthusiasm because I know I'm making progress even if the scale doesn't agree)

Goals for the upcoming week:
1. Keep up food journal
2. Lose 1 lb
3. Go to that beginner yoga class at the gym
4. Get in 2 other workouts of some kind
5. Limit sweets to every other day

So, how did you guys do this last week?

What Hurts the Most

I had every intention of posting a witty rant here today about a recent grocery store find, but after the day I've had, I'm saving the witty rant for another day.

There are so many things that I love about being a full-time mom. I love being there to witness most of the firsts in my kids lives. I love taking them to museums and play dates. I love sitting and watching cartoons and reading books. I love singing Disney Princess songs in the car with them. But don't get me wrong. There are plenty of times that I'm tired and over it and just want some quiet time by myself.

Today, I had the kids by myself from sun-up to sun-down and it seemed that the fates were working against me the whole day. During music camp in the morning, Big A drew a picture of an octopus family. It had a little sister, a big sister and a daddy. No mommy. When I asked her where the mommy was, she told me that the mommy was too big and wouldn't fit in the picture. (I have always been scared to death of my kids perceptions of my status as overweight & her comment has me seriously concerned.) Strike 1.

At lunch, Big A announced that she wished I could go to work all the time so that Daddy could stay home with them, because I don't work. ??? Strike 2.

And then the one that hit it out of the park arrived at bedtime this evening. After a very busy day of camps, crafts and all kinds of fun, Big A asked me to read her a book at bedtime. I had already read 6 books to the girls and was just not in the mood to read anymore. I promised that I would read her the book tomorrow, at which point she whined and said "I wish Daddy would be here to take care of us instead of you." Strike 3. I'm out.

Sometimes I seriously question the decision for me to be at home full-time. I gave up a great career that was really going places and could possibly have us in a better situation than we're currently in. I know that being a full-time mom is a privilege and it's one that I try desperately not to take advantage of, but when I'm hit with comments like that, it makes this a really hard pill to swallow.

The Tuesday Entertainment Roundup

It was another non-exciting week of television. Boo. I'm almost embarrassed to list some of the shows that I've had to resort to watching during this horrible summer hiatus. (Tori & Dean, Ice Road Truckers, need I go on?) Anyway, I saw 3 more movies this last week and here's my assessment.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - This falls into the category of 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back. HORRIBLE movie. And let me just say that Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of my favorites as is IJ & the Last Crusade. I love Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett, but they both were just awful in this flick. The story was just way too out there for my taste and the dialogue just seemed ridiculous. Two thumbs way down.

Religulous - I really debated on whether to even list this one. Reason being that when I started this blog, I decided that 2 things I would never discuss here are religion and politics. Like many people, I have strong feelings on both topics, but I prefer to keep them private, just as I do in my everyday life. So, without getting on a soapbox, let me say that I loved this movie. I would recommend it only to people who are VERY open minded about religious doctrines and who think Bill Maher is funny.

Seven Pounds - I have been waiting a long time to see this movie. And I feel like I can't reveal anything about it without spoiling something for anyone who hasn't seen it. I give it two thumbs up and recommend you keep tissues nearby. This one even caused hubby to shed a few tears.

I'm in the process of reading 2 books currently that I hope to have reviews on next week along with more movies. Have a great week of entertainment y'all!

Monday Morning Eye Candy

Welcome back for Monday Morning Eye Candy!

I have several new readers since last Monday, so let me welcome the newbies especially. Every Monday morning, I try to bring a group of cuties that will hopefully get your day started off right. I'm always happy to take requests, so please make sure and leave them in your comments.

This week's list was inspired by a soap that I used to watch. I'm sure everyone is familiar with Days of Our Lives. I've been following Ali Sweeney (Sami on Days and host of The Biggest Loser) on Twitter and she frequently tweets from the set of the show. Here are some soap hotties.

Bryan Dattilo

James Scott (and he's British...swoon!)

Kyle Lowder

Enjoy and have a happy Monday everyone! See you here next week.

Crazy 8's

I haven't done a meme in a while and my BFF tagged me for this one, so here goes!

8 things I am looking forward to:

1. Teaching my first music class next week
2. Hosting a successful Christmas in July swap!
3. Wearing a size 6 jeans again
4. Finishing the Twilight series of books (I know, I'm behind the times)
5. Getting a BIG reward for some tedious online work (and then blogging about the experience)
6. Going to see a movie in a theater (for a change from my living room)
7. Spending some time alone this weekend
8. Going to see Def Leppard, Poison & Cheap Trick for my birthday this year (do I know how to party or what?)

8 things I did yesterday:

1. Started working on the room setup for my first music class that I'm teaching this summer
2. Drove (what seemed like) 429,348 miles around this city
3. Bought items for a cool craft project for the kids
4. Received an incredibly rude email from a person who stiffed me in a swap (I'm still fuming about it)
5. Ate a lot of chocolate to self-medicate from the aforementioned rude email that upset me greatly
6. Paid bills
7. Did some work for my part-time bookkeeping job
8. Let Jillian Michaels kick me while I was down, but at least I got a workout in

8 things I wish I could do:

1. Finish things with as much enthusiasm as when I start them
2. Manage my time better
3. Find the motivation (and time) to scrapbook more
4. Move into a larger house (preferably with a craft room)
5. Enjoy the outdoors
6. Go back to Disney World (SOON)
7. Lose this weight once and for all
8. Enjoy cooking more

8 shows I watch:

1. Grey's Anatomy
2. Private Practice
3. The Amazing Race
4. Survivor
5. Gene Simmons Family Jewels
6. The Locator
7. Wipeout
8. Tori & Dean Home Sweet Hollywood (and yes, I'm ashamed)

And now I'm supposed to tag 8 people, but I really hate doing that because I feel like I'm pressuring people. So, if you would like to do this meme, please consider yourself tagged! And don't forget to tell me so I can come read your answers!

Angie's Spot presents the Christmas in July Swap

I've been thinking for quite a while about hosting my own swap out here in bloggy land. And now, after participating in several others swaps, I'm venturing out in my first attempt, hoping that will at least a few of you will be interested in joining in. It's going to be fun!

The theme I've chosen is Christmas in July! I don't know about y'all, but I love the Christmas holidays. I especially love the shopping and choosing of special gifts for the people I care most about. And I'm not going to lie...I love to receive surprises. So, if this sounds fun to you, please take a look at the rules below and join in!

1. You must have a blog to participate. Private blogs are ok, but you have to allow access to myself and your partner, so we can enjoy your entry about the fabulous goodies that you receive and get to know you better!

2. All participants must be available to ship their package on July 17th/18th. I'm trying to aim for everyone to receive their packages around July 25th, so please don't spoil the fun by shipping way early or late. And if you can't ship on time or if life intervenes, you must let me know ASAP so that we don't have disappointed participants.

3. The contents of each package must be valued at a minimum of $25 (not including the cost of shipping). You are welcome to spend more than that, but please don't be disappointed if you spend $45 and you receive a $25 package. And please giftwrap each item in the package. This isn't a strict requirement but it makes the whole experience so much more fun!

4. The items in the package should be things that you would love to give as gifts and things you would love to receive as well. Make sure you read up on your partner and get a sense of their likes & dislikes. Tailoring your items to your partner's interests would be great! For example, if you & your partner love notecards and your partner loves purses, coming across purse shaped notecards would be a great gift! Be creative.

5. To participate, please grab the code for the swap button and blog about the swap. Then come back here and link up your post with the Mr. Linky below. It's really simple!

6. After linking up your entry, please email me at angiemnye at gmail dot com with the following information.

Name & Address
Email & Blog addresses
2 Gifts you love to receive
Any hobbies, interests or favorites
Any allergies (food or scents, etc.)
Anything you do NOT want to receive

**Participants will be accepted through June 24th or when we reach 50 people, whichever comes first. I'll send out partner pairings by June 27th, which gives you 3 weeks to put a great package together!

"Trim the Fat" Thursday

This is a great week for reporting! Let's review the goals I set last week and see how I did.

1. Join Sparkpeople: Check! This isn't the first time I've signed up for this program, but this time I'm actually going to use it. Thanks for staying on me Michelle! Mwah!

2. Work out 3 times: Well, yeah, I'm going to do much better with this next week. The good news is that I've been going out of my way to park further away from things, get more walking in and in general not be so sedentary. Baby steps people, baby steps.

3. Lose 2 lbs: Check!! Well, it was a loss of 1.8 lbs since last week, but hey, rounding up never hurt anyone, right?!

Goals for this week
1. Get in 2 runs on the treadmill
2. Get in 2 Jillian Michaels workouts
3. Try the yoga class at my gym
4. Lose 1-2 lbs
5. Keep up the online food journal

How did you guys fare this last week? I'm rooting for you!

The Tuesday Entertainment Roundup

As I announced last week, summer has arrived. {huge sigh} Now that I don't have my enormous repertoire of t.v. shows to keep me from doing anything productive, I have to turn to other means of entertainment. Bring on the books and movies! Here's a recap of what I've done over the last week (or so).

New Moon by Stephenie Meyer - Ok, YES LULA, I just now read the book. Do you forgive me? Moving on. I am officially sucked in to the whole Twilight series. I am anxiously awaiting Shannon to let me borrow her copy of Eclipse so I can continue on with my deepening obsession with Edward Cullen. And for anyone who's interested, no, I haven't heard from Rob...yet.

Pretty in Plaid by Jen Lancaster - OMG, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I LOVE JEN LANCASTER! This was not my favorite of her 4 books, but it still had the wonderfully sarcastic wit that I so love about her. She brings humor to the oddest things and can remember stories with such rich detail that I am just in awe of her storytelling abilities. This particular book recounts stories from her childhood and how particular items of clothing played a huge part in her life.

Wanted - Oh James, I haven't forgotten you. This incredibly violent film includes 2 of the coolest scenes that I've ever seen (1 with a car and 1 with a bullet). If you can stomach it, check this film out. Great cast and hello, James McAvoy. 'Nuf said.

Pineapple Express - Clearly I came into this movie with too high expectations. James Franco was hilarious and Seth Rogen had a few great lines. And there was a really funny car chase scene. Yeah, that's about it. I was bored throughout most of this one, which was incredibly disappointing.

Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist - I love Michael Cera. That kid is just too cute for words and his dry delivery of lines is the stuff of magic. This movie had more highlights than lowlights and a cool soundtrack. I would recommend it.

Ghost Town - Ricky Gervais is comic genius. And I didn't go into this flick with a huge load of high expectations. Maybe that's why I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it. It had a lot of predictable situations, but a lot of the dialogue was great and hello, Ricky Gervais. I would recommend this one also.

Tune in next Tuesday for another installment of my summer series!

"Trim the Fat" Thursday

Greetings from Hilton Head! This week's update is going to be condensed for several reasons, the primary one being, I'M AT THE BEACH!! So, let's get right down to business.

As far as last week's goals, here's the recap.

1. I only got in 1 really good workout, but my motivation level is way high, so I know I'm going to do much better in the next week (especially after spending 4 days in a bathing suit looking at myself in the mirror. Yikes.)

2. I didn't do so well with keeping up with my food journal. I need an online tool to manage this.

3. I am joining Sparkpeople TODAY and for some reason, I'm thinking that they have an online food diary tool. At least I hope so.

4. Just before we left for vacation, I weighed myself and I was down 1lb already. Yippee! I tend to eat much better on vacation (I know, it's weird) and I've gotten a lot of swimming and walking activity in, so I'm hoping that next week's scale will be forgiving.

Goals for the upcoming week.
1. Lose 2 lbs
2. Actually join Sparkpeople
3. Work on the food diary
4. Get in at least 3 workouts

See you next week! Now, how did you guys do this last week? Remember, small accomplishments are still accomplishments. Don't let the lack of attaining large goals weigh you down and keep you from achieving even part of a goal!

Ask the Fruit Cake Lady

I've been a fan of The Tonight Show for as far back as I can remember. One of my favorite segments that Jay Leno has done is "Ask the Fruit Cake Lady". This is hilarious stuff! The following video is some of her best bits from over the years and is NOT SAFE FOR WORK. Enjoy!

The Tuesday Entertainment Roundup

Summer has officially arrived. Which means that my t.v. obsession is on hiatus along with all of my favorite shows. What's a girl to do? Oh yeah, take my Netflix account off hold and get to watching some movies! Here's my reviews of movies that I've seen in the last 2 weeks.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Let me first say that I'm not a fan of Brad Pitt. I don't think he's cute. I don't think he's funny. He generally gets on my every nerve. However, with this movie, I might just have a new appreciation for him. The cinematography is fabulous, the makeup jobs are incredible and the story is fabulous. And Cate Blanchett (who I have a serious girl crush on) was so great in this film! This flick gets 2 thumbs up from me.

Bride Wars - I wanted so badly to like this movie. Every time I saw previews for it, I crossed fingers and toes that they hadn't shown all the best parts in the 30 second trailer. I was wrong. Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway were seriously under-used and did the best they could with a script that was just awful. Don't waste your time on this one.

My Best Friend's Girl - I like Dane Cook. Yeah, I said it. I don't like his stand-up routines, but he makes me laugh so much in his acting roles. This movie had me laughing a lot. I recommend it to people who are not easily offended by really coarse language. And I'm not kidding about the language. It's bad...but really funny. And Kate Hudson is great in this film!

Burn After Reading - As my hubby put it: Burn After Watching. Or save yourself the fire and just don't watch it at all. Unless you really love the Coen Brothers. In which case, you might find this film mildly amusing.

Zack & Miri Make a Porno - I'm starting to sense a theme here. Apparently, seriously bad language is not remotely offensive to me. Go figure. Hubby & I both loved this film! If you like Kevin Smith, see this movie. It's hilarious! Seth Rogen delivers some great zingers and his dry delivery is just classic.

Taken - Oh Liam Neeson, how I adore you. You just get better with age. This is an action thriller that will make you think twice about letting your child travel anywhere without you by their side. LOTS of violence, but a good storyline. Hubby especially enjoyed this one.

And there you have it! Next week I hope to have some reviews of all the books I've read this week while lounging on the beach. Oh yeah, commence with your jealousy. I can take it.

Monday Morning Eye Candy

Welcome back to Monday Morning Eye Candy!

This week's batch of cuties are all guys that I saw in either a tv show or movie in the last week. Let's review.

Ron Livingston (I just loved him as Berger on Sex & the City)

Ashton Kutcher (he just happens to be the spokesman for my favorite camera company...Nikon)

Brandon Routh (saw him in a movie over the weekend and all I can say is "how did I not know about this guy until now?!)

Eric Winter (saw him in a preview for an upcoming film and realized that he's played characters on 2 shows that I watch)

And there you have it! Enjoy the cuteness and join me here again next week. Same cute time, same cute channel.
